6'3 Abington (PA) point guard Anthony Durham
has emerged on the radar of college coaches in a big way over the fall. Last Saturday, Anthony took an unofficial visit to St. Joe's. Prior to his visit to Hawk Hill, he took unofficials to Drexel and St. Francis as well.
On Tuesday afternoon, Hawk Hill Hardwood trekked to Abington to get a look at the point guard. Prior to a shot going up, there is something immediately noticeable about the talented senior, and that is his vocal leadership.
"He's absolutely our leader," head coach Charles Grasty began. "He's a vocal leader, but he also leads by example. He's our coach out on the court."
Durham is, without question, Abington's top player and their leader. In open gym on Tuesday, Durham displayed tremendous quickness in both the half court and open court. He showed an ability to operate well off the pick-and-roll, either pulling up from mid-range or dishing the rock to Abington's bigs as they rolled to the basket.
When Anthony speaks on the court, whether it's calling a set play or calling out a screen, his teammates listen. According to his head coach, that is the case because his teammates see his work ethic and drive. "His work ethic is tremendous," explained Grasty. "I know it may sound like a cliche, but he really is the first in the gym and the last out. He's there on a Friday night, he's always in the gym. He loves it."
An exceptional athlete with good size for the point guard spot, Anthony also demonstrated an ability to connect on jumpers from both the mid-range and deep. He connected on at least four three-pointers in the open gym and was nearly automatic from the free-throw line extended area once he found his rhythm.
"He been working on that elbow jumper and it shows," stated the Abington head coach. "That is a shot we need him to take with the offense that we run. Our bigs dive to the basket, so he knows that he has to take and make that jumper to keep the defense honest. He's been working on that shot a lot and you can see it paying off."
Drexel and Saint Francis were both in the gym on Tuesday afternoon checking out Anthony Durham. He has an offer from the St. Francis on the table, and serious interest from Drexel. Anthony Durham's recruitment continues to heat up on a nearly daily basis. Continue staying tuned to Hawk Hill Hardwood for the latest.
A player who has received a good deal of press on here as of late is senior point guard Anthony Durham. On Tuesday, Hawk Hill Hardwood ventured to Abington (PA) for an open gym, where we caught up with Abington head coach Charles Grasty.
