Jacquil Taylor healing, eyeing fall decision
"Jacquil came down on the back of one of his teammate's feet," Maurice Taylor, Jacquil's father, told Hawk Hill Hardwood. "He ended up with what's called a lisfranc fracture and they had to sort of shift his toes. They had to use three screws and three pins for it."
Now, roughly seven months after the injury, Maurice explained that Jacquil is "just about 95% back. His strength is back. He's running and dunking again, doing the things he was doing prior to the injury." Maurice continued, saying that Jacquil has "added about 15 pounds of muscle while he's been out."
While the injury forced him to miss the remainder of the high school season and the April and July recruiting live periods, that's not to say that Jacquil has any shortage of suitors. "Right now, he has a visit to Purdue set up for the end of September," Maurice elaborated. "I'm also working with Providence right now to set up a date there."
In addition to Purdue and Providence, Maurice spoke about another school that he'd like Jacquil to visit. "Coach Martelli (St. Joe's) is a great dude. I have a lot of respect for him," he began. "He just does things the right way. And more than that, he knows what he's doing."
Purdue, Providence, and St. Joe's have company in Jacquil Taylor's recruitment. Maurice also mentioned Temple, Pitt,, VCU, and North Carolina A&T as being involved in his recruitment. A note of interest is that Jacquil's older brother, Maurice Jr., is on the North Carolina A&T basketball team.
With more than half a dozen schools actively vying for his services, and visits getting set, there is a timeline in place for the Taylors. "We'd like him to sign early," Maurice stated. "He'll sign during the early signing period in November."
The old adage states that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. In Jacquil Taylor's case, that strength is both mental and physical. Despite missing more than half a year of basketball, NCAA coaches are already well aware of what he can give them at the collegiate level. Expect Jacquil Taylor's name to be one that we hear a lot about this fall prior to the early signing period.
